KARIKALAN AND THE TIME MACHINE
“Even in this age of Haldron Atom Collider, sir,” Manikkam went on, “no one like you, belonging to the Scientific Community, could say with assurance that they have understood the irreducible atom in its entirety. But you find the full answer in the Upanishad, sir.”
What Manikkam said had come as a bolt from the bluish blue for the Super Star. Manikkam spoke deliberately knowing the kind of effect his words would have on the Super Star. “Sir,” he said further, “While the modern Scientists are on the scientific look out for the full and complete personality of atom, some four thousand years ago (according to Swami Vivekananda nine thousand years ago, mind you?) our forefathers, the Vedopanishdic Sages and Saints, had formed a premise which would seem to you as puerile if not downright contemptible: in the year nineteen eighty-four our cricket team under Kapil Dev’s stewardship had won the Prudential Cup, ok? Till the last moment, we were considered as a dark horse by pundits. Our guys had the only one calculation, while all other teams had an overall calculation as to how they would win in so many matches and come to the final stage. And then only they would stop to make fresh calculations to win just one more match! While all that could be said about our team was that they as a team had not given up and committed a hara-kiri or concentrated on returning back to India; instead, they took one match for consideration at a time and went into the middle and played a game of cricket! And this calculation or ploy seemed to work out for them eminently. And the final match was just one more game to be played for them! In Sunil Gavaskar’s words, Mohindar Amarnath was a crafty bowler. And till the last ball, India did not win at all. Thus our great Seers, sir, had not gone into a mold or got stuck in a groove at the very mention of the cosmos. They were not afraid of searching for God or the Creator of the Universe. They examined Man the created, and his relationship with the world and the common Creator. This three pointed search had given them rich harvest which are the results of the Vedopanishads. They were very good and crafty players. They were not ready to bear the metaphysical theories and burden. They put simple questions between their shut eyes. And found answers. When they found answers they taught it to their disciples. They looked upon the truth and existence of the Brahman and put forth a simple and even childish premise for their search. They said Ishwar simply played the game of creation, sustinence and destruction, sir!”
The Super Star could understand that Manikkam was onto something important. So he gave his all to Manikkam’s further words.
